Naomi Osaka of Japan celebrates with the 2021 Australian Open trophy

Days before the Australian Open, former two-time champion Naomi Osaka made a personal announcement on social media.

The 27-year-old former World No. 1 told her 2.8 million Instagram followers that she and rapper Cordae are no longer in a relationship. Osaka and Cordae have been together since 2019. They are the parents of daughter Shai born in July 2023.

Osaka is on good terms with Cordae, saying, “There’s no bad blood at all. He’s a great person and an awesome dad.”

Naomi Osaka hopes 2025 is her year on the WTA Tour.  She returned after maternity leave in 2024. She did not get the results she was hoping for.  With new coach Patrick Mouratoglou by her side, Osaka is committed to achieving the results this year. If it does not happen, she hinted that she would be stepping away from the game to be at home with Shai.

The Transformation Of Naomi Osaka

Motherhood changed Osaka.  She is gentler with herself on the tennis court. She has the utmost gratitude for her opportunity to play professional tennis.  Osaka is also more transparent with the media.

This is reflected in her message announcing the split with Cordae, in which she writes, “My daughter is the biggest blessing, and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”

Osaka retired from the ASB Classic Final over the weekend with a one-set lead over Clara Tauson with an abdominal injury.  She is optimistic that she will be healthy for the Australian Open but is expected to get an MRI on January 6.

Naomi Osaka is a four-time Grand Slam champion. She is among several mothers making comebacks on the WTA Tour after maternity leave and childbirth.  The ASB Classic Final was her first WTA final in 2 1/2 years.  Fans were happy to see Osaka get to the final but were saddened that she had to withdraw especially when she was in the lead.
