Mara is the literal and figurative center of a juggernaut Michigan team and has earned real 2026 NBA Draft consideration for his part. The UCLA transfer anchors an impenetrable Wolverines defense, impossible to shoot over at the rim for most college players. That rim protection, especially when paired with highlight passing, makes the Spaniard a fascinating center prospect for an upsizing NBA.

Aday Mara — Center, Michigan (21.2 years old)
Aday Mara Scouting Report & NBA Comparison
- Offensive role: Playmaking Hub/Roller
- Defensive role: Primary Rim Protector/Mid-Deep Drop Big
Mara’s prospect case resembles Donovan Clingan’s, another towering rim protector with passing chops and limited physicality and scoring upside who anchored an elite college team. He has some of what made Bogut a touted prospect years ago, who teams ran their offense through as a playmaking hub with elite shot blocking in college. But he’s certainly a unique player without clear parallels, as are many true prospects at his size.
NBA Comparison: Donovan Clingan, Andrew Bogut
Strengths
- Dominant shot blocker with the size and length to alter and deter shots, excellent discipline staying down on fakes and timing his contests after multiple attempts
- Improved hip fluidity and foot speed open up pick-and-roll coverage, can defend closer to the level of the screen
- Exceptionally skilled passer regardless of his size, throws audacious tight window passes from double teams and short-roll chances
- Has touch with both hands and can access shots in the post over any defender, contorts arms around defenders to score in the paint
- Gigantic target at the rim on lobs, size and length leads to tons of tip-ins and putbacks
- Overwhelming offensive and defensive rebounder, especially dangerous as an outlet passer after defensive boards
Weaknesses
- High turnover player because of inaccurate passing, slow processing against pressure and loose ball control
- Struggles with physicality and contact, too often doesn’t go up strong with the ball despite his size and lacks explosiveness to dislodge defenders
- Weak vertical leaper limits rim protection from uncomfortable angles and positions
- Lacks strength in upper body to absorb chest bumps and hold position defending in post and on drives
- Often unwilling to leave the paint on defense, vulnerable to spacing bigs and off-ball movement/screens and lacks speed to cover ground on closeouts
- Unproven upholding his impact with a heavy minute share over a larger sample of games
2026 NBA Draft Projection: Round 1, Pick 11-20
Mara’s range will vary greatly depending on team construction and philosophy, but the NBA continues to embrace bigger lineups. He won’t be a fit for some schemes on both ends, but he’s eviscerating college opponents and owning the most valuable area of the floor. More minute performance against top conference opponents will inspire confidence in his ability to return lottery value, especially in a playoff setting.
