Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee has long been a point of discussion. But trade rumors ramped up on Tuesday when the former MVP deleted social media posts on both Instagram and X, a modern sign of discontent.
Posts stretching back several years, many celebrating moments with the Milwaukee Bucks, have vanished, leaving only a few scattered memories behind. Is this just another cycle of “what-if” chatter? Or is Giannis quietly signaling that a change is imminent?
NBA Rumors: Where Will Giannis End Up If Bucks Trade Him?
Here are three possible destinations if the Milwaukee Bucks choose to trade Antetokounmpo:
Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks could be one of the dark horses in a wide open Eastern Conference, and they still believe that their roster can improve. They are likely to take calls on Trae Young and build around guys like Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels, and bringing in an MVP-level star like Giannis would instantly make them contenders to win the East.
Recent moves by Atlanta give them some leverage. Thanks to trades & free-agency, they’ve added pieces and also acquired a favorable unprotected 2026 pick. That pick (plus players) could be part of a trade without destroying all of Atlanta’s future flexibility. The front office reportedly has the cap space under the first apron to absorb a big salary, which would be necessary in such a trade.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs make for one of the most intriguing destinations. San Antonio has its future set with Victor Wembanyama in the fold, and they figure to be competitive for years to come. They not only have their superstar, but other young and talented pieces that are developing around him. They might choose to keep their young core intact, but they could also use guys like Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and even De’Aaron Fox as potential trade fodder.
Bringing in Antetokounmpo would make the Spurs instant title contenders. They figure to be one of the teams in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference playoff race, and adding one of the game’s best overall weapons would help catapult them near the top.
New York Knicks
From Kevin Durant, to Damian Lillard, and even LeBron James, the Kicks are always a part of rumors attached to marquee players. The same is again true for the current Antetokounmpo situation, but this time, there may be some serious substance behind the chatter. After advancing to at least the second round of the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, New York could be looking to take advantage of a weakened Eastern Conference and shoot for the moon this year.
There have been hints laid out throughout Giannis’ career that he’d be interested in playing home games at MSG, and playing in the Big Apple could have personal life benefits as well. It was recently reported that Antetokounmpo’s wife and children are moving their permanent residence back to Greece, and New York City houses the only US airport with non-stop flights to Athens.
But would the Knicks have enough tradable assets to make a deal work with Milwaukee?
