It appears as though you can throw Jordan Poole into the “pool” of notable NBA players who might be the early-season trade block. And if the Pelicans do make him available, a reunion with the Golden State Warriors could be a possibility.
NBA Rumors: Is Jordan Poole On The Trade Block?
Poole’s departure from the Warriors is nearly as notable as his time with them. After Golden State drafted him in 2019, he became a key part of the team’s rotation and scoring load, and was a part of a championship team in 2022. But he was traded away after a tumultuous 2022-23 campaign, which began with the infamous practice punch that Draymond Green landed on Poole’s jaw.
He has played for the Wizards and Pelicans since then, but he may be made expendable in just his first year with New Orleans. Poole has missed the last 16 games while dealing with an injury, and there has been another player on the team’s roster that has stepped up in his absence.
Rookie point guard Jeremiah Fears has started 21 of the Pelicans’ 23 games so far in 2025-26, and is averaging just under 16 points per game and is one of the team’s top overall contributors. According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, Fears’ bursting onto the scene has the team rethinking their future with Jordan Poole.

Trade rumors are now floating, and one of the teams in need of scoring and shot creation is the one that originally drafted him. The Warriors have fallen short of expectations so far this season, and are sitting at 11-12 as we enter mid-December. Their age is starting to show, as Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green have all been dealing with various ailments, and the rest of the roster is simply not talented enough to pick up the slack.
Warriors Could Be Interested In Their Former Guard
Given how Poole has continued to produce at a high level despite being in shooting-guard heavy lineups, he could add depth and scoring versatility to a Warriors roster that has had stretches of offensive stagnation. His scoring ability and shooting fits well in a Warriors system that values spacing, pace, and off-ball motion. Poole’s offensive versatility could give the Warriors a deadly “first guy off the bench” or a secondary initiator/shooter when starters rest.
At 26 years old, he’s still young enough to grow with the core, possibly rebound defensively, and adjust to a supporting-role mentality rather than being a primary #1 option. The Warriors would need to ensure that his role is clearly defined as a shooter/play-maker off the bench, not “the guy.” They’d also need to manage his contract and roster fit carefully to avoid redundancy with existing players.
But if Golden State believes Poole’s recent growth is real, trading to bring him back could pay off. They’d not only be getting a player whose skill set matches what made the Warriors great, but one who already has familiarity with the system in place.
