Just hours after ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed Friday that Dallas Mavericks star center Anthony Davis has been diagnosed with a minor groin strain and is expected “to miss a few games,” an NBA insider shared a new report linking the 10-time All-Star to the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.
Warriors Targeting Anthony Davis
Chris Haynes of NBA on Prime reported Friday night that Golden State and Atlanta are potential destinations for Davis, who has emerged as a trade target for the Warriors amid Jonathan Kuminga trade rumors.
“I was told [the Warriors are] contemplating making a case to acquire Anthony Davis as well,” Haynes said. “And so with that being said, I was told that Dallas was not that fascinated with what Golden State has on its books.

“And so if the Golden State Warriors did really want to make a true play at Anthony Davis, they will likely have to acquire some more assets or involve another team.”
Haynes added that the Warriors are “really trying to figure out ways” to trade for a “defensive dominant starting center” for a potential title run with their veteran stars.
Hawks Can Offer Appealing Trade Package
The Hawks are also interested in Davis, according to Haynes.
“Sources tell me that the Atlanta Hawks remain very intrigued with the possibility of acquiring Anthony Davis via a trade,” Haynes said. “Now, the Hawks, out of all the shooters out there that are interested, the Hawks, they possess a pretty attractive asset package, right? That could make things interesting.”
Per Spotrac, Davis is in the first season of his three-year, $175.36 million contract. The five-time All-Defensive member also has a $62.78 million player option for 2027-28.
Any team that lands Davis “will have to really consider giving him an extension,” per Haynes.
“And so with that being said, if a deal was able to materialize between the Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, I was told it would not involve Trae Young,” Haynes continued.
“Dallas would likely want expiring deals, young assets, and picks, and probably likely to include the No. 1 pick from last season, Zach Risacher.”
Young, 27, was selected fifth overall by the Mavs in the 2018 NBA draft and was immediately traded to Atlanta for Luka Doncic. The eight-year veteran wouldn’t be the best option for 19-year-old Cooper Flagg.
Risacher, however, is just 20 years old. He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting last season after averaging 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 75 games with the Hawks.
