Nets’ Bojan Bogdanovic Will Have Season-Ending Foot Surgery

Brooklyn Nets forward Bojan Bogdanovic will miss the entire 2024-25 season. A decision was made to undergo left foot surgery, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
He was with the New York Knicks when suffering the injury in Game 4 of a first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Bogdanovic already had offseason surgery in an attempt to address the issue and was traded to the Nets. He was included as part of the Nets’ return for Mikal Bridges.
The 35-year-old is in the final season of a two-year, $39M deal that he initially signed with the Detroit Pistons.
Bogdanovic Surgery In Prep for 2025-26?
There was some speculation that Bogdanovic may have value in the trade market as an expiring contract. With that failing to materialize, this seems like a logical conclusion to the Croatian’s season.
Bogdanovic played 57 games in the ’23-24 season, averaging 20.2 points in 28 games for Detroit before being acquired by New York. In 29 games for the Knicks, Bogdanovic averaged 10.4 points in 19 minutes per game.
At 6-foot-7 and a career 39.4 percent three-point shooter, Bogdanovic will likely have value to a contender in the offseason at the right price. Of course, he’ll first have to prove he’s healthy enough to make a difference.
He also averaged a career-best 21.6 points in the ’22-23 season, showing his best days weren’t too long ago.
Nets Season Outlook
Brooklyn looked set for a tank job when losing 23 of 28 games between the end of November and end of January. That’s what’s made winning six of seven heading into the All-Star break all the more surprising.
Cameron Johnson was long rumored to be traded but the Nets held firm on a high asking price. Ben Simmons has been bought out but D’Angelo Russell and Nic Claxton are still around.
Younger players like Keon Johnson and Ziaire Williams have seen increased opportunity of late and that trend should continue down the stretch.
At 20-34, the Nets are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the fourth-worst record in the East. They are also 1.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls for the 10th and final Play-In Tournament spot.
The Bulls could be leaning further into the tank after trading Zach LaVine while the Sixers may do the same. It certainly makes for an interesting debate on which way any of these teams will lean down this final stretch of the season.
