Upon the firing of long-time head coach John Harbaugh on Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens immediately become the most attractive job opening in the NFL this offseason. There will be plenty of candidates willing to take over the role of leader, but the team might not have to look too far into its past to find someone to take the job.
NFL Coaching Carousel: Is Anthony Weaver In Line For Ravens Job?
Anthony Weaver spent the last two seasons as the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator, but is more than familiar with the Ravens organization. In 2021, he was hired onto Harbaugh’s staff as a defensive line coach, and was elevated to assistant head coach the year after, a role that he spent two seasons in.
If The Ravens move on from John Harbaugh, I’d love for Anthony Weaver to be on the team’s list of candidates.

His ties to Baltimore date back to his playing days, too, as Weaver was selected by the Ravens in the 2002 NFL Draft. He spent four of his seven seasons playing for the organization.
That familiarity may be an attractive asset to the Ravens during their coaching search. Harbaugh spent 18 years at the helm, providing a stability rarely seen in the modern NFL, and they may look to favor consistency during the upcoming interview process. That would mean that hiring from within would be an option, especially for guys like current offensive coordinator Todd Monken. But Weaver’s longer history with the team would put him in the frontrunning in such a scenario.
It isn’t a far-fetched idea, either. Weaver has been garnering interest around the league in recent days, as both the Cardinals and the Falcons have requested to interview the 45-year-old.
But would Weaver’s lack of experience give the Ravens any pause? Most of his time in the league has been spent as a defensive line coach, and he has been elevated to the level of coordinator for just 34 career games. There are other candidates on the market who have held head coaching positions before, which may be the route that Baltimore chooses given the win-now nature of their current roster.
The #AZCardinals have requested permission to interview #Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver, source said. Another HC interview for him.

Ultimately, the Ravens will have to decide whether familiarity and continuity outweigh a more traditional, proven résumé. Weaver’s deep roots in Baltimore, combined with his rapid rise and growing league-wide interest, make him a compelling option in a moment of transition for a franchise accustomed to stability.
