NFL scouts may have had some doubts about certain aspects of Jahdae Barron’s skill set. But the cornerback did well at the combine to perhaps change some minds around the league.

Jahdae Barron’s NFL Player Profile

In a draft class that is rather light on first round secondary talent, Jahdae Barron from the University of Texas figures to be one of the top prospects at his position. The 23-year-old cornerback played five seasons at the collegiate level, and saved his best for last.

In 2024, Barron recorded 67 total tackles and had 11 defended passes. He also finished tied for the SEC lead in interceptions with five on the year, and he was selected as one of the four best defensive backs in the country by being named an All-American.

But despite his numbers and accolades, Barron is projected to be a mid-to-late first round pick. His strengths include his footwork and route recognition, and has excellent ball instincts. But where he lacks is in his recovery speed, so scouts had eyes on his running exercises during the 2025 NFL Combine.

2025 NFL Combine Results

How did Jahdae Barron fare in the 40-yard dash and 10-yard split?

40-Yard Dash

Defensive backs are known for displaying some of the best 40-yard dash times at the Combine. This year has been no different thus far, though we’ve yet to see the wide receivers take to the tests. But of the 24 DBs who participated in the most important running exercise, Barron placed 6th, coming in with a time of 4.39 seconds.

10-Yard Split:

Barron did well to dispel any doubts about his speed. Not only did he finish in the top-6 in the 40 yard, but his 10-yard split time was tied for the third-best time of any of the 24 participants. He was clocked at 1.50 seconds, a number that he shared with four other NFL cornerback prospects.

Broad/Vertical Jump:

His jumping numbers weren’t as impressive as his running ones. Barron’s vertical jump was measured at 35”, which was the 11th best. His results in the broad jump were similar, when he posted a mark of 10’3”, which ranked as the 12th longest in this year’s DB class.

Physical Measurements

Jahdae Barron NFL Draft Prediction

The Combine may have been as beneficial for Jahdae Barron as it was for any other defensive back prospect. NFL scouts have surely taken note of his speed and how he ranked amongst his peers, which will help in keeping him in first round range. He likely won’t make it past pick 27 or so, and would be something of a surprise if he were to drop into the second round.

Prediction – 1st round, 23rd overall pick – Green Bay Packers
