The Minnesota Vikings went all in during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They came out with two players that they are hoping can be cornerstones for their offense and their franchise for years to come, but they sacrificed plenty of capital for the 2025 selection process. Because of their wheeling and dealing last year, no team in the league has fewer picks to work with this time around.

Vikings Have The Fewest Draft Picks Of Any NFL Team

The Vikings came into the 2024 Draft with two first round picks to work with. They held the 11th and 23rd overall picks, and were looking to add elite talent to a team that had a down year in 2023 with a record of 7-10.

They wound up trading both of those picks in order to move up to the 10th and 17th spots. A deal with the Jets saw them move up one spot in order to select Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy, and an exchange with the Jaguars allowed Minnesota to pick defensive end Dallas Turner out of Alabama.

Due to an injury for McCarthy, the quarterback has yet to take an NFL snap as he enters his second season, but Turner was able to play in 16 games and notch 3 sacks and 5 QB hits during his rookie campaign.

But because of their wheeling and dealing in order to land the two players that they hope are future stars, the Vikings will have little capital to use in 2025. As of early April, they have just four picks in this year’s draft to work with. Their second round pick was a part of the package that allowed them to move from 23 up to 17 in 2024, as was their fourth-rounder.

Because of that, Minnesota will only have picks in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th rounds this year, giving them the smallest amount of capital of any NFL team. There of course could be trades before and during the draft process that allow them to pick up some extra selections, but that would mean sacrificing further positioning this year or in future drafts.

After finishing 13-4 last season in one of the toughest divisions in football, it may feel like they have minimal holes to fill, especially on offense. But depth could become an issue, and that will likely be their main focus with the picks that they do have in 2025.
