The writing was on the wall for Davante Adams and his future with the New York Jets. He was brought in in the middle of the 2024 NFL season in order to appease quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the venture turned out to be an abject failure for all parties involved.

So when it was announced that Rodgers wouldn’t be returning to New York for a third season, it became clear that the Jets would look to rid themselves of Adams and his massive contract. They did so on Tuesday, announcing that they would be releasing the six-time Pro Bowler, allowing him to hit free agency this offseason.

NFL Rumors: 3 Possible Landing Spots For Davante Adams

Which NFL teams will come calling? We look at three possible landing spots for Davante Adams:

Los Angeles Chargers

One of the first orders of business this off-season for the Chargers should be finding weapons for Justin Herbert. Ladd McConkey was certainly a nice revelation in 2024, but there isn’t a whole lot of other talent in the wide receiver room. Quentin Johnston had put up nice scoring numbers last year but has a bad case of dropped passes, and the third player on their depth chart (Derius Davis) caught 13 passes last year.

They’ll have enough money to go after a guy like Davante Adams. Los Angeles ranks 5th in the NFL in available cap space this offseason, which bodes well after a playoff appearance in 2024. It is likely that Adams will want to continue his career by joining a team with a legit talent at quarterback, and Herbert has been on the fringe of becoming a top player at the position.

New England Patriots

Could Adams stay in the AFC East? There is no team in the league with more money to spend than the Patriots, as they have roughly $33 million more in cap space than the next highest team on the list.  They’ll be able to hand out lucrative contracts to the players that they covet, and upgrading the wide receiver position should be one of their top priorities.

New England’s receiving yards leader last season was Hunter Henry, who plays tight end. None of their wide receivers had more than 620 yards, and they got 10 total touchdowns out of the position in 2024. Adams would be an immediate upgrade for the Patriots, and would give Drake Maye a reliable veteran target as the young quarterback looks to continue his upward trajectory.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys would seem like an obvious destination for Davante Adams. Dallas has an established no.1 option in CeeDee Lamb, but the rest of the returning wide receiver room is average at best.

Jerry Jones is always looking for the next big name star, but nabbing a guy like Adams might be too far fetched of a notion. The team has been doing what they can to take care of their own, handing out big, long term commitments in the past year, and they have a looming decision to make on Micah Parsons.

They won’t have much wiggle room, either. The Cowboys have the 7th-worst salary cap situation in the NFL this offseason, and may not be able to afford luxuries like bringing in an established star like Davante Adams.
