NFL Free Agency Day 3 Roundup: Broncos Sign TE Evan Engram To A 2-Year Deal

The Denver Broncos continued their strong showing during the opening days of the 2025 NFL free agency period. They’ve given most of their attention to their defense that already ranked in the top-10, but made one of the bigger offensive splashes of Day 3 when they signed former Jaguars tight end Evan Engram.
Broncos Sign One Of The Top NFL Free Agent Pass Catchers
The Broncos had one of the least productive tight end rooms in the league in 2024. The leading receiver at the position nabbed a total of 19 receptions last year, and the highest yardage total was 188. Denver entered the off-season with four tight ends under contract, but it was well known that they would be looking to upgrade at the position.
They went out and got arguably the best available option on Wednesday. It was announced in the early afternoon that the team had come to an agreement with Evan Engram, who is a two-time Pro Bowler and provides a nice safety blanket for second-year quarterback Bo Nix.

Engram’s best season of his NFL career came in 2023. He played in all 17 games that year, and racked up 963 yards and 4 touchdowns. But his most impressive stat was the 114 receptions that he finished with, which was the fourth most of any player in the league regardless of position, and 19 more than any other tight end. He looked to build on those totals in 2024, but was in and out of the lineup with various injuries, and was only able to participate in 9 contests.
When Engram was released by the Jaguars last week, he instantly became one of the top pass catchers available on the open market. The Broncos ended his availability on Wednesday, as they signed the 30-year-old veteran to a two-year deal worth $23 million. $16.5 million of that is fully guaranteed.
Pending how things shake out during the rest of free agency and during the upcoming NFL Draft, Engram could end up being one of the premiere target’s for Nix and the Denver offense. Courtland Sutton has finished with the most yards on the team in three of the past four years, and figures to be the no.1 option. While they did make a free agent signing in Trent Sherfield, Nix is still lacking in explosive targets, and could lean heavily on a veteran presence like Engram during the upcoming season.
