The Los Angeles Rams took home a 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, but it came at a price. Rising NFL star wide receiver Puka Nacua was injured during the second quarter of the contest, and is likely to miss time while dealing with an ankle sprain.
NFL Injures: Puka Nacua Could Be Out Until At Least Week 9
The play happened with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. Trying to score their first points of the day, quarterback Matthew Stafford targeted Nacua in the endzone with a jump ball. The receiver came down hard on the incompletion, and remained on the ground while holding his left leg.
Nacua limped off of the field, and didn’t play for the rest of the half.
It appeared that the Rams had avoided a scare, at first. Nacua returned to action in the third quarter of the eventual victory, but failed to record a catch in the second half. He finished the game with just two catches for 28 yards, both his worst marks by far in any game this season.
#Rams WR Puka Nacua, the NFL’s leader in catches, suffered an ankle sprain that will likely cause him to miss time, per me and @MikeGarafolo.
It would make sense for Nacua to be out next week against the #Jaguars, then LAR has a bye to regroup and assess. pic.twitter.com/6e8EaBpe9m

On Monday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that Nacua’s ankle sprain will likely cause him to miss time.
It would make sense for Los Angeles to play it safe with their biggest offensive producer. The team will make the long trip to London, England this coming weekend to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium, and have a bye immediately after in Week 8. That would mean that Nacua would receive nearly three full weeks of rest between games, with a potential target return date of November 2nd in a game against the New Orleans Saints.
Nacua Was On A Record-Setting Pace
Nacua had been on a record-setting pace during the first month of NFL action. His 52 catches were the most by any player in the history of the league through the first five games, and he was looking like a threat to challenge the single-season receiving yards mark, as well.
The Rams are 4-2 and in a three-way tie for first place in the NFC West. Early betting lines have them listed as 3.5-point favorites over the Jaguars on Sunday.
