Things are trending upward for Murray.
On Thursday, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is to get Murray “fully healthy” and ready to play against the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
When asked if that means the team is preparing to start Murray in Week 10, Gannon said, “Yes.”
Murray started the first five games of the season. Murray threw for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, while also rushing for 173 yards and one touchdown.
Murray guided the Cardinals to a 2-0 start. However, the Cardinals dropped the next three games to move under .500.
After suffering a foot injury in Week 5’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, Murray missed the next two games. The Cardinals had a bye in Week 9, giving Murray extra time to rest.
Starting in Murray’s place was Jacoby Brissett.
In two games, Brissett played rather well, considering the circumstances. Brissett finished 52 of 80 for 599 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
Brissett’s passing totals in each game were 320 yards and 279 yards. Murray’s highest passing total this season is 220 yards.
The Cardinals lost both games Brissett started by a combined eight points. Those two defeats also came at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers, two teams that could reach the Super Bowl out of their respective conferences.
If Murray can’t go, Brisset would be in line to start his third consecutive game.

The Cardinals are another loss or two away from a lost season.
After starting 0-2, the Cardinals have lost five consecutive games. What’s frustrating is that all five losses have been by one possession. If any of those one-point losses had flipped the other way, the Cardinals would be in the playoff hunt.
Murray is the most talented quarterback on the roster. However, the Cardinals’ offense has looked better in the two games Brissett has started.
If the Cardinals miss the postseason for the fourth consecutive season, the Cardinals organization must have an important conversation about Murray.
In July 2022, Murray signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension. Murray is signed with the Cardinals through the 2028 season.
So far, Murray has not lived up to the contract. If the Cardinals fire Gannon and bring in another coach, the new regime might want to explore other options at quarterback.
Don’t be surprised if the Cardinals test the trade market for Murray this offseason.
The Cardinals (2-5) face the Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1) on Monday Night Football.
