The Philadelphia Eagles are winning football games using a similar formula that they have in recent years. It was enough to win them the Super Bowl last season, and they are on a quest to win at least 11 games for the fourth straight time. But they way that they achieve their success isn’t exactly pretty, and one NFL legend had some harsh words on Wednesday about their style of play.
NFL Legend Says Eagles Offense Is Boring
The Eagles lean on their offensive line. They have one of the better rushing attacks in the league year in and year out, and there of course is the infamous “Tush Push” that they have perfected. Philadelphia’s approach can be described as conservative, and it isn’t always the most aesthetically pleasing style of football to watch.
Former New Orleans Saints quarterback and NFL legend Drew Brees gave his thoughts during an interview on ESPN’s First Take:
“I respect Philly. They are winning games…I can’t stand to watch that offense. It’s the most boring offense. It is. I’m sorry.”
When asked by Stephen A Smith if the boring style can still win a Super Bowl, Brees answered by saying “Absolutely”.
Through the first three weeks, the numbers certainly back up the idea. While the Eagles’ offense ranks 8th in the NFL in points scored (77) thus far, they rank 27th overall in total yards. Philly barely eclipsed 300 yards of total offense in Week 1, and were under 300 in the other two games.

During their Week 2 slugfest with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles had just 216 yards of total offense, and still won the Super Bowl rematch. Through the first two games of the season, quarterback Jalen Hurts had 253 passing yards combined, and didn’t throw a touchdown.
There was a bit of a breakthrough in Week 3, however. Against the Los Angeles Rams, Hurts threw for 226 yards, surpassing his combined total from the first two weeks, and had three touchdown tosses in a 33-26 victory.
Will they be able to keep the momentum? The Eagles will take on the 3-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, who rank just outside the top-10 in total yards allowed. But if you ask Hurts and company, they’ll tell you that they’re happy getting wins, no matter what the style looks like.
