We are just barely scratching the surface of the 2025 NFL season, and there are already some quarterbacks around the league whose jobs may be in jeopardy. Whether it be due to poor performances during Week 1 or simply because there is a worthy backup waiting in the wings, we could be looking at our first QB benchings before the start of October.
Which NFL QB Will Be Benched First In 2025?
Which signal callers are the ones with the best odds of losing their starting jobs first? The oddsmakers at BetOnline have released the lines, and we take a look at some of the top candidates:
The Giants are rolling with Russell Wilson… for now 👀@DMRussini doesn't think it'll be long before we see Jaxson Dart.

Russell Wilson (-200)
The Giants entered the season with one of the most crowded quarterback rooms in the NFL, and a change could be on the horizon. Russell Wilson won the starting job over Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart, but struggled in Week 1 as New York failed to find the end zone a single time.
Wilson’s 168 passing yards gave him an average yards per attempt figure of 4.5, and he completed just 45.7% of his passes. There were immediate cries from the fan base for the team to insert Dart, and it was possible that Wilson would be benched for Week 2. But head coach Brian Daboll has announced that they’ll roll with the veteran, at least for another week.
Spencer Rattler (+400)
Spencer Rattler won the starting job in New Orleans almost by default. The only other quarterback on the active roster is rookie Tyler Shough, who had middling results in the preseason, making Rattler the “veteran” choice to lead the Saints for the start of 2025.
But how long will the second-year man last under center? Unless Rattler is able to show marked improvement over last season and his lackluster Week 1 performance, we should see Shough get his shot in the coming weeks.
Joe Flacco (+400)
The most intriguing quarterback battle of the preseason happened in Cleveland, and 40-year-old Joe Flacco was eventually named the starter. The veteran had a solid statistical performance against the Bengals last Sunday, but was unable to lead the Browns to victory despite offensive struggles from Cincinnati.
There are two rookie quarterbacks that are next in line, with Dillon Gabriel listed #2 on the depth chart. If Flacco is benched and Gabriel happens to struggle, there is a chance that we could see Shedeur Sanders this NFL season as well.
