One of the biggest question marks entering the 2025 NFL Draft is in regard to Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. There was originally talk of him being a top-5 pick, but now there are some who say that he’s a late-first round product at best. One of the teams that will be selecting in the 20s range is hungry to fill a quarterback spot, and Sanders is scheduled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers sometime later this week.

Could The Steelers Select Shedeur Sanders In 2025 NFL Draft?

The Steelers’ quarterback situation is still up in the air. The initial free agency period has passed us by, and teams like the Giants, Raiders, and Jets have already filled their vacancies. The Steelers are now one of the few teams actively looking for a starting QB for 2025, as it is unlikely that they are pegging Mason Rudolph or Skylar Thompson as their Week 1 guy.

There have been flirtations with Aaron Rodgers, but the 41-year-old is dragging on the decision-making process, as he is known to do. He visited the Steelers’ facility in March, but left without a deal, despite reports of the meeting being an overly positive one.

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers makes a choice before the night of the NFL Draft, but Pittsburgh might try to move in a different direction if there is no conclusion.

There were reports released on Tuesday that suggested their interest in Shedeur Sanders. The 23-year-old is set to visit the Steelers facilities sometime later this week, which will come on the heels of a Pro Day that was widely criticized.

Will Pittsburgh be in any kind of position to pick him, though? The Steelers are the owners of the 21st pick in the upcoming selection process, and it is though to be rather unlikely that he falls all the way into their hands. A trade up is always possible, but tougher to do when you’re missing a second-round pick.

A Day 2 pick is typically the cost to move up a handful of spots in the NFL Draft, but the Steelers already dealt theirs away. In order to acquire DK Metcalf via trade back on March 13th, Pittsburgh sent the 52nd overall selection to the Seattle Seahawks, offloading one of their draft assets. They only have two selections within the first 122 picks this year, and are near the bottom of the league in Draft Power Rankings.

Pittsburgh’s quarterbacks from last season have already found new homes, and in the same city. Justin Fields signed a three-year deal with the New York Jets, and Russell Wilson inked a one-year contract with the Giants.
