Following the Eagles’ disastrous Monday loss to the Chargers, would coach Nick Sirianni consider benching quarterback Jalen Hurts?

The sky is falling in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Eagles have dropped three consecutive games, including a 22-19 overtime loss to the Chargers.
Much of the blame is being put on the quarterback, who arguably played the worst game of his professional career. Hurts finished 21 of 40 for 240 yards with four interceptions and a QBR of 27.3.
Down three in overtime, Hurts threw an interception in Chargers’ territory to end the game.
Hurts’ five giveaways were tied with Donovan McNabb (1999) for the most turnovers by a single Eagles player since 1978.
Less than one year ago, Hurts hoisted the Lombardi trophy with the Eagles and won Super Bowl MVP. This week, there are calls from disgruntled fans to bench Hurts.
During a recent radio appearance with 94 WIP in Philadelphia, Sirianna scoffed at the notion of benching Hurts.
“No, I think that’s ridiculous,” Sirianna said. I know every time I go out on that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game. That’s something that’s been proven. We’ve won a lot of football games.”
Hurts is definitely one of the driving forces for the offense’s struggles. The inability to run the ball effectively, the inconsistent offensive line play, and the lack of creativity in the passing game have all contributed to the offense’s downfall.
The Eagles rank 19th in scoring (22.2 points per game), 22nd in passing (198.9 yards per game), 22nd in rushing (110.5 yards per game), and 24th in total offense (309.4 yards per game). That’s a far cry from last year’s offense, which ranked in the top 10 in most statistical categories.
Tanner McKee is Hurts’ backup. In McKee’s one career start last season, McKee finished 27 of 41 for 269 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-13 win over the New York Giants. That was a meaningless game that had no impact on the standings. McKee has nowhere near the same experience level as Hurts, who played well in two Super Bowls.

Despite losing three straight games, the Eagles remain in first place in the NFC East at 8-5. Philadelphia leads Dallas (6-6-1) by 1.5 games in the NFC East.
The Eagles’ remaining games include a home game against the Raiders, an away game against the Bills, and a home-and-home series against the Washington Commanders.
Barring a historic collapse, the Eagles’ favorable schedule should lead to a playoff berth.
