Christmas was typically a day that was reserved for the NBA when it came to sports on TV. It was an unofficial starting point of sorts, when casual fans began to become invested in the season thanks to the marquee matchups that the league would set for the holiday. But the NFL is looking to make its mark by building on the success that it had in 2024, and will feature a trio of games on Christmas Day in 2025.

Three NFL Games To Be Featured On Christmas 2025

The league was trying new things during the holiday season last year, and they proved to be successful. There were two NFL games that were featured on Netflix for the first time ever, and the streaming platform reported positive returns. The early game between the Chiefs and Steelers drew 30 million viewers, while the Ravens vs. Texans contest that followed hit a mark of 31.1 million.

It was another notch in the league’s belt when it comes to viewership, especially in comparison to the numbers that the NBA did. There was a marquee matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day 2024, which became the most-watched regular season game that the league had seen since 2019. But despite a peak of 8.1 million viewers, the numbers paled in comparison to those that the NFL put up earlier in the day.

Football will look to dominate the landscape again in 2025. During Tuesday’s owners meetings, the NFL announced that there would be three football games featured on Christmas this year. In addition to the two Netflix games that we saw last December 25th, a third game will be shown via streaming on Amazon. The teams that will participate is of course an unknown as we are still a ways away from the 2025 schedule being released.

The addition of the Amazon game won’t be out of the norm. Christmas falls on a Thursday this year, the day that Amazon typically streams a prime time game anyway, and the duo of games on Netflix will be the true extension to the day.
