The most unstoppable play in football might go away. One NFL team has proposed a rule to ban the “Tush Push,” a quarterback sneak popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles. Which NFL team proposed the rule to ban the tush push?

Which Team Proposed The Tush Push Ban?

NFL EVP of Football Operations Troy Vincent told NFL Network’s Judy Battista on Monday that one team proposed a rule to ban the Tush Push. Vincent did not identify the team by name.

“A year ago, we felt like let’s just focus in on the hip-drop tackle, and the Tush Push, just say, hey, the Philadelphia Eagles, they just do it better than everybody else,” Vincent said to Battista. “But there are some concerns. Our health and safety committee has laid that out today with a brief conversation on the injury report. There’s some challenges, some concerns that they’ll share with the broader group tomorrow. But the Tush Push will become a topic of discussion moving into March.”

The team is no longer anonymous thanks to a report by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Per Pelissero, the Green Bay Packers were the team that suggested the rule.

The Packers can withdraw their proposal. If it stays, the NFL owners could vote on the rule at the owners’ meeting in Florida next month.

24 of 32 owners need to vote in favor of it for a rule to pass.

What Is The Tush Push?

Some call it the Tush Push. Others have deemed it “The Brotherly Shove.”

While the name remains open for interpretation, the result is not up for debate. It’s arguably the most dominant play in football.

The tush push is a quarterback sneak play where the quarterback takes the snap, lunges forward into the line, and receives a “push” from two teammates behind the quarterback.

When run by the Eagles, it’s virtually unstoppable.

The Bills also run a similar sneak play with Josh Allen.

Per ESPN Research, the Eagles and Bills have scored a touchdown or achieved a first down on 87% of their attempts using the Tush Push.

The Eagles and Bills have run it a combined 163 times in the last three seasons.

It’s become a weapon for the Eagles, especially around the goal line. Hurts rushed for 52 touchdowns in four seasons as the starting quarterback of the Eagles, with over half coming on 1-yard runs.
