NFL Teams Have Spent $321 Million On Former 49ers Players In Free Agency

The roster for the 49ers is going to look different in 2025. A Super Bowl team just over a year ago, San Francisco has seen more than a handful of key pieces leave via free agency so far this year. And according to the numbers, the $321 million that other NFL teams have spent on former 49ers players is the highest figure in league history.
NFL Teams Spending Big Money On Former 49ers Players
The player on the list that garnered the most money on the open market was Aaron Banks. After spending the first four years of his career in San Francisco, the 27-year-old offensive lineman signed a four-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, which will be worth $77 million over the tenure.
The Denver Broncos committed a combined $80 million to Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga, and the Colts handed Charvarius Ward $54 million. Two other players signed for $30 million with their respective new teams.

All in all, the money doled out to former 49ers players reached $321 million through the first four days of the free agency period. Even with more than a handful of players still available, it is the highest combined money given to any former team’s players in NFL history.
The number is certainly set to grow. Linebacker De’Vonder Campbell is still available, as is 9-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk. The figure doesn’t account for trades, either, meaning that the $17.5 million that the Commanders took on for Deebo Samuel is not included in the $321 million.
Even with all of the outgoing players and contracts, the 49ers still have to make their biggest decision of the NFL offseason. Quarterback Brock Purdy is seeking a new payday after earning less than $1 million in each season of his career so far, and could cost the team upwards of more than $50 million annually on his new contract. It is unclear how San Francisco will approach negotiations, but previous reports say that they had started the talks at about $45 million per year.
