The first Sunday of the NFL season was a wild one. It was capped off with a tremendous Sunday Night Football contest.
Many news and injuries from Week 1 will impact several teams.
NFL Week 1 Injuries
Some players did not go unscathed in week 1.
Here are some key injuries to keep an eye on:
- George Kittle (hamstring)
- Drake London (shoulder)
- Evan Engram (calf)
- Jauan Jennings (shoulder)
George Kittle suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter against the Seattle Seahawks and did not return. He will undergo an MRI to assess the severity of the injury.
Drake London seemed to have avoided a serious injury. He is considered day-to-day with a shoulder sprain. London left the game in the fourth quarter and did not return.
Evan Engram suffered a calf injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s contest against the Titans and did not return. There are no updates on how severe the injury is.
Another 49er player suffered an injury in week 1. WR Jauan Jennings left the game in the second half due to a shoulder injury. He will have an MRI done to see how severe the injury is.
NFL Week 1 Key Notes
Below are some key notes from the first Sunday of the NFL season.
QB Debuts
Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, and Daniel Jones all made their debuts with new teams. They combined for 10 passing TDs and 0 interceptions. All three finished in the top five in fantasy football scoring thus far.
Russell Wilson’s Debut Did Not Go As Well As Others
While Rodgers, Fields, and Jones saw tremendous success in week 1 with new teams, Russell Wilson did not. He threw for 168 passing yards and no TDs. He had a 59.3 passer rating, and the Giants did not score a TD. Brian Daboll has not committed to starting Wilson in week 2. It may be Jaxson Dart time in New York much sooner than later.
Miami Dolphins Are A Mess
The Miami Dolphins got smashed in week 1. They lost 33-8 against the Colts and made Daniel Jones look very good. Tyreek Hill was visibly upset on the sideline, and Tua struggled mightily with three turnovers. Hill is a trade candidate. Mike McDaniel’s seat is very hot in Miami.
Rookies Impress in Week 1
WR Emeka Egbuka led the Bucs in receiving yards (67) and receiving TDs (2) while playing over 90% of the snaps.
Commanders RB Bill Croskery-Merritt had 82 rushing yards and one rushing TD.
TE Tyler Warren was impressive for the Colts. He led the team in targets (9) and recorded seven catches for 76 receiving yards. His seven catches is the second most by a TE in his first career game.
RB Ashton Jeanty did not have a breakout performance in week 1, but still scored a rushing TD.
Christian McCaffrey Seemed Fine In Week 1
Despite a massive injury scare and missing practice on Friday, McCaffrey suited up in week 1 and was his dominant self. He had 22 carries for 69 rushing yards and added nine catches for 73 receiving yards. He seems to be in good health and will be the workhorse for the 49ers. San Francisco will need him healthy, as Kittle and Jennings could be looking at missing time, depending on the results of their MRIs.
