Madison Keys and Jannik Sinner are the 2025 Australian Open champions.  They are the big winners, but not the only ones.  Nike Tennis is also a champion.  After losing perennial ambassador Rafael Nadal to retirement in 2024, the brand has endured with Keys, Sinner, and finalist Aryna Sabalenka at the forefront of the sport in Melbourne.

The women’s Nike Tennis kits were criticized at the beginning of the tournament and received mixed reviews at best.  Nike may not care and could believe that there is no such thing as a bad impression as the kits were on display until the bitter end of the tournament.

Jannik Sinner is also a Nike guy, and his kit was met with remarks calling it bland.  It does appear that Nike Tennis does not focus as much on the top tier tennis players as other sports’ elite athletes.  Sabalenka was going for a three-peat, something that had not been done in over 25 years.  Nike Tennis, who designed a special red kit for her in 2023, exerted more effort last year.

It will be interesting to see how the brand responds for the French Open.  There is a chance Sinner may not play depending on how his CAS case goes on April 16, but defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz will be there.

Nike Tennis has been shrinking, losing longtime American ambassadors Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz in recent years.  Rising teenage star Mirra Andreeva, 2024 Olympic champion Qinen Zheng, 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, and resurging Spaniard Paula Badosa are among the other faces of the brand on the women’s side.

If Nike Tennis wants to boost its presence in the WTA, newly crowned Australian Open doubles champion Taylor Townsend is available.
