On Tuesday evening, the Pelicans hosted the Timberwolves. It was a back-and-forth game between New Orleans and Minnesota. In the end, the Wolves walked away with a 149-142 OT win.Â
The Pelicans are 3-19 in 2025-26. That is last place in the Western Conference. Additionally, the team is 1-9 in its previous 10 and has lost four straight. Recently, NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that two teams are “showing interest” in one Pelicans player. That would be fifth-year pro Herbert Jones. Siegel noted that the Lakers and Warriors are keeping an eye on Jones’ availability.
Will Los Angeles or Golden State be able to acquire Herb Jones from the Pelicans?

With a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft, the Pelicans selected Herbert Jones out of Alabama. Since November 24 of his rookie season, Jones has been a full-time starter for New Orleans. Over five seasons, Jones has appeared in 256 games and made 247 starts. The 27-year-old is one of the top defenders in the NBA. Jones was named All-Defensive First-Team in 2023-24. He also finished fifth in DPOY voting that season.
In 2025-26, Jones has started 16 of the team’s 22 games so far. He’s missed six consecutive games for New Orleans after suffering a calf injury. Despite being out of the lineup since 11/22, Herbert Jones is reportedly a trade target around the league. NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that the Lakers and Warriors are “showing interest” in the defensive ace.

Sigel noted that New Orleans has turned down multiple trade offers in the past to keep Herb Jones. He’s a player that the front office values highly. It will not be easy for either Los Angeles or Golden State to acquire the talented two-way wing. Herbert Jones is on a three-year, $67 million extension with New Orleans. He just signed that deal this summer.
That means he is not eligible for trade until Janurary 14,2026. Los Angeles is reportedly looking to add a three-and-d player to replace Jarred Vanderbilt. He’s shooting well below .300% from beyond the arc this season.
Herb Jones shoots a respectable .362% from the perimeter in 2025-26. If the Pelicans traded Jones to the Warriors, they could get another young piece back in Jonathan Kuminga. He’s a player Golden State has wanted to part ways with for quite some time.
