The Philadelphia Eagles lost their first game of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday after giving up a 17-3 lead against the Denver Broncos. And the news got worse on Monday, as it was announced that running back Saquon Barkley was added to the injury report on a short week.
Saquon Barkley Added To Eagles Injury Report
There was no indication of an injury against Denver, but Barkley had a remarkably low usage rate on Sunday. After four straight games of 18+ carries, the Eagles handed off to their star running back just six times, and he was targeted just three times in the passing game.
He did manage to catch all three of those passes for 58 total yards, and scored a touchdown as well. But despite leading for most of the game, Philadelphia failed to feed Barkley the ball.
Now, he is apparently dealing with a knee ailment. Barkley was added to the team’s injury report for the coming week, and he was held out of the Eagles’ practice sessions on Monday. His status is now in question for their upcoming game, especially given that it is a short week. On Thursday night, they will travel to New York to take on the Giants as they look to bounce back and into the win column.

He hasn’t been putting up the gaudy numbers that he did in 2024, but Saquon Barkley has been effective so far this season. He is averaging 79 combined yards per game through the first five contests, and has found the end zone four times.
Eagles Offense Has Struggled Despite 4-1 Record
As a whole, though, the Eagles have struggled on offense. They rank 29th in the NFL in total yards, including teams that have already had their bye weeks. They are second-to-last in passing yards and 25th in rushing yards, but have committed only one turnover, a league-best mark.
Philadelphia is hoping for a get-right game against their division foe this week. Even with Barkley’s status unknown, the Eagles are currently listed as 6.5-point favorites. They opened at 7.5, meaning that the news of their running back may have already had an effect on the line.
