Saquon Barkley record

The historic season continued for Saquon Barkley as he set a new record during Super Bowl LIX for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Barkley has enjoyed an excellent first season with the Eagles after joining on a three-year $37.75m deal last March.

At Super Bowl 2025, the Eagles were out to get revenge for their 2023 loss to the Chiefs and stop them from completing a first-ever three-peat.

At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles held a 34-6 lead after one of the most dominant displays at Super Bowl until that point.

Saquon Barkley entered the game knowing that there was a strong chance that he was going to set an NFL record that had previously stood for 26 years.

Barkley Sets Rushing Yards NFL Record

Saquon Barkley set the record for rushing yards in an NFL season (including the playoffs) on the last play of the first half of Super Bowl LIX.

Going into the Eagles’ clash with the Kansas City Chiefs, he needed just 30 rushing yards to match the total set by Hall Of Famer Terrell Davis (2,476) from the 1997-98 season.

Barkley set the record with a two-yard carry to finish the first-half with 31 rushing yards.

It comes on the heels of a magnificent regular season that saw Barkley rush for a league-leading 2,005 yards.

He narrowly missed out by 100 yards on the regular-season rushing record set by Eric Dickerson (2,105) in 1984. Barkley perhaps could have beaten this record if he had not sat out the final regular game of the season.

“It’s special,” Saquon Barkley said earlier this week of the opportunity to break the rushing record. “I can’t do it without my teammates. The record is cool and all, but the main thing is winning the Super Bowl. That’s our mindset.”

Entering the Super Bowl, Barkley has rushed for 442 yards and five touchdowns in the playoffs.
