The 2025 Sugar Bowl game between Georgia and Notre Dame has been pushed back from Wednesday, January 1 to Thursday, January 2 amid the horrific accident on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Eve.

Not only has the day changed, but the time has also.  Originally kickoff was expected to be at 8:45 PM EST on Thursday night.  Both teams requested an earlier kickoff time.  As a result, the game will begin at 4:00 PM EST.

The game will still be televised on ESPN.

Amid the tragedy, it will be interesting to see how both teams handle the unusual and sad circumstances.

Approximately 500 Notre Dame fans in New Orleans celebrated Catholic Mass in their hotel.

Georgia, the home team for this year’s Sugar Bowl, leads the head-to-head series with Notre Dame 3-0.  One of those wins came at the 1981 Sugar Bowl which was the National Championship.

The winner of the Georgia vs. Notre Dame game will face Penn State in the CFP semifinal on January 9, 2025 at the Orange Bowl.

Sugar Bowl History

This will be the 91st game in Sugar Bowl history.  The first happened between Tulane and Temple on January 1, 1934.
