The Dallas Cowboys have made another blockbuster trade, this time for New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams. Below are the trade grades for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets.

Jets DL Quinnen Williams Traded to the Dallas Cowboys

On Monday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones teased that Dallas has “made a trade” ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. On Tuesday, that deal surfaced with the Cowboys acquiring Williams.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets are trading Williams to the Cowboys for a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

In exchange, the Jets will receive the Cowboys’ first-round pick in 2027, a second-round pick in 2026, and DT Mazi Smith.

The moves come hours after the Jets traded cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for two first-round picks.

The Cowboys also traded for Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson earlier today.

The Jets drafted Williams with the No. 3 selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. In seven seasons, Williams has become one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL.

Williams, 27, is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and garnered a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022.

Williams has 32 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and one sack in eight games this season.

In 2023, Williams signed a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the Jets, including $66 million guaranteed. That deal keeps Williams under contract through the 2027 season.

NFL Trade Grades: Cowboys and Jets

Defense has been the biggest issue for the Dallas Cowboys this season. The Cowboys are 29th in run defense (143.0 yards per game), 30th in pass defense (254.4 yards per game), 31st in total defense (397.4 yards), and 31st in scoring defense (30.8 points per game).

Now, the Cowboys add one of the best run defenders in the NFL to a defense that allowed 119 rushing yards to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys’ season started rocky after Jones traded star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks.

While some might argue that Parsons should have never been traded, plugging in Clark and Williams in the middle of a defense is a solid duo. It still doesn’t make up for the weak secondary and pass rush, but the Cowboys are definitely better today with Williams.

The Jets are selling their best assets for top draft compensation.

The Jets received one first-round pick for Williams and two first-round picks in the Gardner trade.

The Gardner trade stings a bit more than the Williams trade because he is younger and plays a premier position.

For a young team that needs draft picks to find a quarterback and expedite a rebuild, the Jets did a great job getting two top premier selections for Williams.
