Geno Smith Speaks About New Chapter In Las Vegas

It’s official. Smith is now a Raider.

Smith put pen to paper on his two-year, $75 million extension that can be worth up to $85.5 million with $66.5 million guaranteed. Smith, 34, is now under contract with the Raiders through the 2027 season.

Smith is reunited with head coach Pete Carroll, who coached the quarterback in Seattle from 2019 to 2023.

“I think there is unfinished business, and I think when people think about my story, you know, Coach Carroll was a big part of that,” Smith said on Monday via Nick Walters. “He gave me an opportunity when not many people would have. He saw the hard work that I was putting in, he saw the things behind the scenes that I do that allow me to get this opportunity. But to be able to play for him and again, to be a part of this organization, it means everything to myself and my family.”

After an inconsistent nine-year start to his career, Smith rejuvenated his career in 2022 with the Seahawks.

Smith threw for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns (a career high), and 11 interceptions with a league-leading 69.8 completion percentage. Smith won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year and led the Seahawks to the postseason.

Geno Smith Ready To Win In Las Vegas

Smith now enters Las Vegas with a new regime. Smith takes over at quarterback for the trio of Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder, who combined for a 4-13 record in 2024.

Smith is a proven winner who has led the Seahawks to three consecutive seasons over .500.

“We’re here to win, Smith said via Raiders.com. “We’re here to do this thing the right way. I want to lead the right way. I want to be a big part of the culture here and just do the right things and really just leave my mark on my teammates, on the team and the organization.”

The Raiders have made the postseason once (2021) since 2017.
