Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was finally sentenced for his role in a multicar crash. Will Rice miss time during the 2025 season?

Rashee Rice Verdict

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rice has been sentenced to 30 days of jail time for his role in a Dallas car crash last year. Rice also received five years’ probation.

Rice can serve the jail time at any point during the probationary period.

Per the Dallas County District Attorney’s office release, Rice, 25, pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges, including Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Racing on a Highway Causing Bodily Injury.

On March 30, 2024, Rice made “aggressive maneuvers” around traffic while driving 119 miles per hour. Rice eventually struck another vehicle and caused a multicar crash.

Rice fled the scene on foot without checking in with the other victims.

Rice’s plea agreement includes jail time, probation, and restitution to the victims for their out-of-pocket medical expenses prior to the plea. Restitution totaled $115,481.91.

Defense Counsel Royce West released a statement on behalf of Rice:

“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole,” the statement read. “I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”

Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot pointed out that although no one died in the crash, Rice must “mature” and make better decisions.

“A vehicle in the wrong hands can be as dangerous as any weapon,” Creuzot said. “We are extremely fortunate that no lives were lost that day, and Mr. Rice is fortunate to have walked away unharmed. We hope he takes this as an opportunity to mature and leads by example moving forward. I wish him the best in making safer choices.”

Rashee Rice Faces Suspension From The NFL

The NFL has been waiting for a legal decision in Rice’s case before determining the correct punishment.

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review,” NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy told ESPN.

Rice likely faces a multigame suspension that he will serve this year.

The going sentiment is that Rice will receive around four games.

Rice enters his third year as the Chiefs’ No. 1 receiver. After a promising rookie campaign, Rice only played in four games last season due to a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. Rice had 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in 2024.
