For those of us born in the last century, Kerri Strug and the “Magnificent 7” were one of the highlights of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Strug and her teammates won the first ever gold medal for Team USA in women’s gymnastics. The way in which Strug completed her vault and earned a top score with a bad ankle to help the team win the medal was something that seemed only possible in the movies.

Now the movie industry is revisiting this unbelievable moment in USA Olympic history on the heels of its 30th anniversary with a Gia Coppola-directed movie called “Perfect.” Millie Bobby Brown, who was not born until 18 years after that Olympic moment, is in talks to star as Strug. Strug was 18 when she became a household name and is now 47 years old.
Brown, 21, is a British-born actress best known for her work in the Netflix series Stranger Things. She is married to Jake Bongiovi (son of rock and roll icon Jon Bon Jovi), and the couple recently adopted a child.
It is unclear if Millie Bobby Brown has any gymnastics experience and how much stunt work may be required for the role. Regardless, “Perfect” will be a highly anticipated movie introducing the next generation, those who only know Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Suni Lee, as Team USA Olympic champion gymnasts.

Before Biles, Shannon Miller was the most decorated US gymnast. She led the Magnficent 7 team which also had Amanda Borden, Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Dominique Moceano, Jaycie Phillips, and Strug.

Netflix is believed to be the outlet that will gain the rights to the movie, but it is too soon to know for sure. Also unknown are the other stars or a release date.
