During the interview, Sharpe mentioned Black Panther 3 and the rumors that Denzel Washington will be in the cast.

Coogler did not shy away from the question and confirmed the speculation.

“I’ve been dying to work with Denzel,” Coogler said. “I’m hoping we can make that happen. I’ve got every intention of working with him on that movie. As long as he’s interested, man, it’s going to happen. He’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us now.”

While speaking with Australia’s Today, Washington revealed the movies and projects he wants to pursue before retirement. One of them is Black Panther 3.

“I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done,” Washington said. “I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”

Washington later apologized to Coogler for speaking about his plans for Black Panther 3.

Is Black Panther 3 Going To Happen?

As of March 2025, Marvel has not officially announced Black Panther 3.

2018’s Black Panther was considered a landmark moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and became the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.

In 2020, Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular Black Panther, passed away after a battle with colon cancer.

Two years later, Coogler returned to direct Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which ended its theatrical run with an $859.2 million gross.

Though unconfirmed, if Coogler is bringing in Washington for Black Panther 3, Marvel will definitely greenlight it.
