Sacramento Kings Fan Ejected For Criticizing Team’s Hustle Speaks Out

The fan that caused the delay during the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s game between the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns spoke out on Thursday morning.

Sacramento Kings Game Interrupted By Frustrated Fan

It was a frustrating night all around inside Golden 1 Center. The Kings, who are one of the league’s worst teams after the first month, continued their woes by giving up 41 first quarter points on their way to an early 25-poin deficit. They shortened Phoenix’s lead late in the third quarter, but eventually lost steam and the Suns won 112-100.

The loss dropped Sacramento to 5-14 on the year, and their fans are near their breaking point. They have seen plenty of bad basketball in California’s capital in the past, but there have been allegations of a lack of effort given by some of the players on the roster.

That restlessness showed up front and center on Wednesday. With just under 6 minutes left and the Kings down by 16, the team headed to their bench during a timeout. As their huddle was breaking, cameras caught a bubbling confrontation directly behind where the players were sitting. It appeared that a fan was yelling, pointing, and being held back, while also being responded to by some Kings players.

He was wearing a Kings jacket, and appeared to be a hometown fan. He was escorted out by security after the game was delayed for about a minute.

Devlin Carter Speaks Out About His Experience

There were questions lingering about what exactly the confrontation was about, but we learned first hand from the fan himself on Thursday.

Devlin Carter, who is actually from Brooklyn, took to his own Instagram account in order to address the confrontation. He apparently took issue with Zach LaVine’s effort on defense, and let the 47 million dollar player hear about it:

“After the 6th time Zach LaVine leaves his man wide open for a three…I say ‘Yo, we do not pay to watch you not play defense’.”

He went into further detail about the verbal back and forth, including LaVine telling him to go home. Carter added that Kings fans deserve better, especially the ones paying to be in attendance.

There has been no statement from LaVine or the Kings organization.

Sacramento has long been known to have some of the best fans in the NBA. They’ve shown up and supported their team despite the decades of struggles, and this year has been the same, with Golden 1 Center still nearly packed on a nightly basis. But given the taste of success that they enjoyed in 2023 and the state of the team just three years later, it has been a frustrating year amongst the fan base.

The Kings did defeat two formidable teams recently, with victories over the Nuggets and Timberwolves. But the loss to the Suns felt like a step backwards, and that their record is indicative of who they really are.

They’ll try to bounce back on Friday night when they travel to Utah to take on the Jazz.
