All signs point to Leavitt leaving Tempe.
Leavitt will reportedly leave Arizona State and enter the transfer portal. The news comes days after Leavitt did not attend Arizona State’s team banquet, fueling speculation that the quarterback has decided to leave the school.
Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham did not provide any clarity to Leavitt’s situation, saying he wishes him “nothing but the best.”
Leavitt began his collegiate career at Michigan State, playing in four games during the 2023 season.
Leavitt transferred to Arizona State ahead of the 2024 season. Leavitt and running back Cam Skattebo anchored a Sun Devil team that won the Big 12 and qualified for the College Football Playoff. Arizona State nearly upset Texas in the quarterfinals, but the Sun Devils lost 39-31 in double overtime.
Leavitt finished the 2024 season with 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Leavitt played seven games in 2025, throwing for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Leavitt elected to have season-ending foot surgery following Arizona State’s Oct. 25 loss to Houston.
Leavitt still has two years of eligibility remaining.

LSU
The Lane Kiffin era at LSU is set to begin.
Kiffin has been known to find quarterbacks in the transfer portal. Kiffin recruited Jaxson Dart and Trinidad Chambliss in the transfer portal.
LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier is heading to the NFL, meaning Kiffin will want to start from scratch and bring in his own quarterback.
If Chambliss does not get another year of eligibility and can’t go to LSU, Leavitt has the arm talent and athletic ability to thrive in Kiffin’s spread offense.
Indiana
Hats off to Curt Cignetti. The Indiana head coach has backed up every promise he’s made since arriving in Bloomington.
After decades of losing, Cignetti has the Hoosiers as the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. One reason for Indiana’s success is quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
Mendoza spent his first three seasons at California before transferring to Indiana. After 13 games with Cignetti, Mendoza is the Heisman favorite and projected to be the first quarterback selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Under Cignetti, Indiana is now an attraction for potential transfers. Cignetti could have Indiana as a top program again next year with Leavitt under center.
Miami
Under Mario Cristobal, Miami has been extremely successful in recruiting quarterbacks in the transfer portal.
Two seasons ago, Cam Ward won the ACC Player of the Year and was voted the Davey O’Brien for best quarterback in college football.
This year, Carson Beck helped guide the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff.
If Leavitt is in the portal, expect Miami to make a strong pitch to win his services.
