After 32 games, the 49ers are making a change at kicker.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 49ers are waiving Moody. The move comes days after Moody missed a 27-yard field goal and had a 36-yard field goal attempt blocked.
The 49ers surprised many draft experts by selecting Moody in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Moody entered the NFL after becoming arguably the best kicker in college football.
Since Moody entered the NFL, accuracy has been a major issue. Moody made 46 of 62 field goal attempts (74.2%) in 32 games, with 10 of those misses coming last season.
Moody was 94 of 96 (97.9%) on extra point attempts.
The 25-year-old converted six of eight field goal attempts (75%) and eight of nine extra point attempts (88.9%) in the postseason.
This summer, the 49ers brought kicker Greg Joseph into training camp to compete with Moody. Head coach Kyle Shanahan ended up picking Moody to start the season.
After one game, Shanahan has seen enough of Moody.
With Moody out, the 49ers are signing veteran kicker Eddy Pineiro to a one-year contract.
Pineiro played the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Pineiro also played for the Chicago Bears and New York Jets. The 29-year-old has made 111 of 126 career field goals (88.1%) and 116 of 126 of his extra points (92.1%).
49ers Dealing With Injury Bug

The good news is the 49ers walked away with a 17-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
The bad news is that the team will be without some of its star players going forward.
All-Pro tight end George Kittle suffered a hamstring injury and will be placed on injured reserve. Kittle will miss at least the 49ers’ next four games against the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Los Angeles Rams.
The earliest Kittle could return is Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 12.
Kittle caught four passes for 25 yards and one touchdown in the win over the Seahawks.
Quarterback Brock Purdy also walked away with multiple injuries. Purdy suffered injuries to his left shoulder and toe. Shanahan said that Purdy’s status for Sunday’s game will be determined by his involvement in practice.
If Purdy can’t play, Mac Jones will start for the 49ers.
Jauan Jennings suffered a left shoulder injury in the win. Scans came back clean, meaning Jennings is considered day-to-day and could play in Week 2.
The 49ers (1-0) travel to New Orleans to play the Saints (0-1) on Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
