Xavier’s Sean Miller has agreed to become the next head coach of the Texas Longhorns. Find out Sean Miller’s estimated contract below.

Sean Miller Leaves Xavier For Texas

As first reported by Cedric Golden, Miller has agreed to become the next head coach of Texas.

The news comes one day after Texas parted ways with head coach Rodney Terry after three seasons.

Terry became Texas’ interim head coach after Chris Beard’s suspension in December 2022. Terry led the Longhorns to the Elite Eight that season, their first since 2008.

Terry was named the full-time head coach in March 2023.

Terry went 62-37 in three seasons, with three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Ironically, Terry’s last game as Texas’ head coach came against Miller and Xavier, who defeated the Longhorns in the First Four last week.

“Coach Terry has led our program in a first-class manner, and we’ve accomplished some great things,” Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said in a statement. “He did a tremendous job in his first season helping to manage a very difficult situation, and we’re truly grateful for that. We appreciate all he’s done for our student-athletes and program and wish him the best in the future.”

Sean Miller Contract: How Much Will He Make At Texas?

With Miller leaving Xavier, how much will the former Musketeers head coach make at Texas?

According to Kirk Bohls, Miller will make an estimated $5 million per year, approximately $2 million more than Terry.

Bohls also reported that Miller’s buyout from Xavier is “relatively small,” which likely factored in his hiring. The exact amount for the buyout is unknown.

After coaching Xavier from 2004 to 2009, Miller left to become the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats. Miller led the Wildcats to seven NCAA tournaments in 12 seasons, including three appearances in the Elite Eight.

Arizona fired Miller in 2021 after missing the tournament in three consecutive seasons. Miller was also embroiled in a federal investigation that forced the university to vacate 50 wins.

Miller returned to Xavier in March 2022. During his second stint as the head coach of the Musketeers, Miller led the team to two NCAA Tournaments, with one Sweet 16 appearance in 2023.

Xavier’s 2025 tournament run ended with a first-round loss to Illinois.
