SGA Joins Jordan, Bryant, Durant On Elite Scoring List

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) made an elite scoring list as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Boston Celtics Wednesday night.
With 34 points in the game, Gilgeous-Alexander scored at least 20 points for the 60th straight time. Since the NBA-ABA merger, only Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant can lay claim to that accomplishment.
It is yet another feather in the cap of an MVP-worthy campaign for Gilgeous Alexander. In addition to the scoring, he collected five rebounds, seven assists, and a steal in the win.
This was a statement win for the Thunder, winning 118-112 in Boston despite the absence of All-Star Jalen Williams and Alex Caruso.
Consistency The Key For SGA
Nikola Jokic is doing all he can to win a fourth MVP in five years. Yet, if Gilgeous-Alexander can continue to make like his personality and stay even keeled, the MVP award is his to lose.
He is the best player on the best team in the West and the Thunder hold a healthy lead over the Nuggets in the standings.
As good as Jokic has been, Gilgeous-Alexander already paid his dues last season. He finished second in MVP voting despite arguably having the best case. Part of why he fell short was because there was a narrative that he hadn’t been in the conversation before and had to repeat the trick to show he truly deserves it.
Well, it looks like he’s more than accepted the challenge.

On the season now, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 32.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks. Statement wins like the ones against Denver and Boston most recently only further amplify his case.
SGA Not The Only Record-Breaker On The Night
Boston set a record of its own during the game, attempting an NBA all-time high 36 three-pointers in the first half alone. They finished with a staggering 63 attempts.
The NBA record for most threes attempted in an entire game is 70.
