The Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 4-1 with a huge victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. One of the key plays was made by linebacker Devin Lloyd, who returned a Patrick Mahomes interception 99 yards for a pick six. It was a continuation of Lloyd’s hot start to the season, but he is somehow missing out on consideration for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.
Devin Lloyd Leads The NFL In Interceptions After Week 5
Lloyd certainly has the accolades to at least be in the conversation. His two interception, 8 tackle performance against the 49ers in Week 4 earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, and he won Defensive Player of the Month for the conference as well.

He only added to his resume on Monday night, bringing his interception total to 4 on the season. That figure is tops in the NFL. He also added two tackles.
Despite his accomplishments thus far, Lloyd isn’t getting the love from the oddsmakers. Sportsbooks have him coming in with a current designation of +3500, behind nine other players on the odds board.
Oddsmakers Favoring Sacks In DPOY Listings
This is likely due to the emphasis on sacks. Guys like Aidan Hutchinson (+300) and Nik Bonitto (+550) who get after the quarterback are near the top of the list, and 8 of the 10 players with the shortest odds are primarily known as pass rushers. In that regard, Lloyd doesn’t have much of an argument. He has yet to record a sack this season, and has just one QB pressure.

Interceptions are typically more a matter of chance, while sacks are a more consistent measure of success, at least in the eyes of the oddsmakers. Without getting to the quarterback, Devin Lloyd would have to continue causing turnovers on a regular basis, which isn’t exactly a sustainable formula in the NFL.
The Jaguars will look to continue their hot start in the coming weeks, and the schedule could help. Beginning with Monday’s game against the Chiefs, the team will be in Jacksonville for three straight contests, a stretch that will be followed with a bye week. In all, the Jaguars will spend a total of 33 days without leaving home.
