After another disappointing offensive performance from Bo Nix, should the Denver Broncos move on from the second-year quarterback? Colin Cowherd shared his strong opinion about Nix and the Broncos.

Colin Cowherd: Will Sean Payton Move on from Bo Nix?

The Denver Broncos pulled off an ugly 10-7 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football. Denver is now 8-2 and sits atop the AFC West.

However, the Broncos won despite Nix, who turned in another poor performance. Nix finished 16 of 28 for 150 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

The total offensive numbers were even worse. The Broncos finished with 220 yards of total offense and 5 of 15 on third downs. Denver also finished the game with 11 penalties, adding insult to injury.

Denver has won seven consecutive games, but Nix has excelled for four quarters in one of them—Oct. 26 against the Dallas Cowboys. Nix has struggled for nearly all of the first halves before needing miraculous fourth quarters to win the game.

The Broncos deserve credit for being the first NFL team to eight wins. However, Denver might have a liability at quarterback if it reaches the postseason.

After leading all rookies in touchdown passes a year ago. On paper, Nix’s numbers are above average—2,126 yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

However, the offense looks worse than it did in 2024. The Broncos have one touchdown in their last 17 drives.

Nix is only in his second year as a professional, so he still has a lot to learn. However, the Broncos have a Super Bowl-caliber defense and an excellent offensive line. If Nix doesn’t deliver in the postseason, would Sean Payton find a new quarterback in the offseason?

Cowherd believes so.

“Sean Payton is a very impatient guy,” Cowherd said on Friday’s edition of The Herd. “He also understands the urgency at quarterback, unlike a lot of coaches in this league. I wonder—because the roster, the O-line is set, the D-line is set, the pass rush, the receivers—would Sean Payton draft another quarterback? I’m dead serious. Bo Nix has regressed badly.”

Nix’s completion percentage is down from 66.3% in 2024 to 60.9% in 2025. His passer rating has also decreased from 93.3 to 85.7

“I’ve gone from a buy to a hold to a potential sell on Bo Nix,” Cowherd explained. “I’ve got seven straight weeks of this stuff.”

Broncos 2025 Outlook

Barring injury, Nix will be the quarterback for the Broncos the rest of the way.

Denver is 8-2 and has a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West.

Denver’s most important game of the season is next week when the Kansas City Chiefs (5-4) come to town. If the Broncos win, the Chiefs’ reign over the AFC West is likely over this season.
