Sorana Cirstea Pleads For Return Of Stolen Trophy Won At WTA Cleveland Tournament

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea lost to Karolina Muchova in an intense and nearly three hour match in the second round of the 2025 US Open. However, that is not the only thing that she lost.

Cirstea traveled straight to New York after winning the WTA 250 Cleveland tournament which concluded on August 23. This was the 35-year-old’s third career WTA singles title. She brought the trophy with her from Cleveland to New York, and she says it was stolen from her hotel room.

Sorana Cirstea pleaded on social media for the return of her trophy which she said has not monetary value but plenty of sentimental value.

What Sorana Cirstea Said

Cirstea provided specifics and asked for the public’s help to track down her trophy.

She said:

“Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back.”

Lack of Decorum at US Open

Cirstea’s situation adds to the general lack of decorum this year at the US Open. The only difference is that it happened inside her New York hotel room and not on site at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Aggressive fans have made headlines for the wrong reasons with the most recent being the fan who tried to unzip Jannik Sinner’s bag after his Sunday night win when he was planning to sign autographs.

Is this the norm at sporting events, or are we hearing more about it since it is in New York?

Whatever the cause or reason, hopefully there are no more negative fan stories for the remainder of the US Open which concludes on September 7.

In the meantime, the WTA Cleveland tournament has assured Cirstea that it will make things right so she has her hardware.
