St. John’s Moves To No. 6 in AP Top 25

The Red Storm (26-4, 17-2 Big East) continue to climb the AP Top 25 and set new benchmarks for the program.

Rick Pitino’s squad is sixth in the latest poll, the program’s highest ranking since Jan. 29, 1991. The Red Storm moved to No. 5 in the country during the 1990-1991 season.

After losing to Villanova on Feb. 12, the Red Storm have won five consecutive games.

Their latest win came in Saturday’s 71-61 victory over Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden.

With the victory, the Red Storm clinched their first outright Big East regular-season title since 1985.

It’s been a dream college basketball season under Pitino, who will take his sixth Division I team to the NCAA Tournament later this month.

The Red Storm last made the tournament in 2019, losing in the First Four.

St. John’s has not won an NCAA Tournament game since 2002.
