The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to bolster their secondary coming out of mandatory minicamp and one player recently became available that could help shift their Super Bowl hopes.Â
But Pittsburgh isn’t the only AFC North team looking to make a push to get over the hump in the ultra-competitive AFC, where teams will have to get past both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen to make it to the Big Game.Â
Steelers Linked To Jaire Alexander, Jalen Ramsey
Following the acquisition of 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh is in win-now mode. Reports have surfaced that the team is looking to acquire either Jalen Ramsey or former Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander, who played with Rodgers for five seasons in Green Bay.Â
Alexander, a former first-round pick, still has plenty left in the tank but has struggled to stay healthy over the past few seasons. He played seven games or fewer three times in the last four years, but that might not be as big of a concern for the Steelers, who have solid depth at the position. The 28-year-old has been one of the league’s top cornerbacks when healthy, but was a salary cap casualty in Green Bay. He was owed $16 million and Green Bay saved $17 million in cap space by cutting him.
But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t productive when he was on the field. According to Pro Football Focus, Alexander had a 78.3 coverage grade in 2024, good for 16th out of 222 CBs. With Darius Slay Jr., Joey Porter Jr., and Beanie Bishop Jr. already on the roster, the addition of Alexander would be more of a luxury than a necessity for Pittsburgh.Â
Lamar Jackson Tells Ravens GM To ‘Go Get Him’
At least one person doesn’t want to see Alexander come to the AFC North — his former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson. The Baltimore Ravens star quarterback was asked about the possibility of reuniting with his former college teammate after the team opened minicamp on June 17. He admitted to contacting Alexander and openly pushed Ravens general manager Eric DeCost to go out and sign Alexander, perhaps in attempt to keep him from signing with his division rival.
“Go get him, Eric,” Jackson said, referring to the Ravens GM. “I love all of our corners, don’t get me wrong. But go get him, Eric.”

Jackson and Alexander played together at Louisville for three years and were both selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Packers traded up to the No. 18 pick to select Alexander while Jackson was selected with the final pick in the first round despite winning the Heisman Trophy in 2016.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams have also been linked to Alexander, who will be a difference-maker on a potential contender, no matter where he lands.
