After signing with the New England Patriots, wide receiver Stefon Diggs is ready to work with Drake Maye, the quarterback who reminds him of Josh Allen.

Stefon Diggs Compares Drake Maye To Josh Allen

Diggs joins the Patriots after signing a three-year contract worth $69 million.

The veteran wide receiver made it official on Friday at his introductory press conference.

After the contract signing, Diggs spoke to the media and relayed his excitement for playing with Maye. Diggs explained how players in the league have compared Maye to the wide receiver’s former quarterback in Buffalo.

“I’m excited. I really look forward to it,” Diggs said about playing with Maye. “It’s crazy because when you ask around, he has a lot of similarities … Well, people say through the grapevine he acts a lot like Josh (Allen). That was my guy, so I look forward to meeting and connecting with him.”

Diggs spent the 2024 season with the Houston Texans. Diggs caught 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury.

Diggs said that although he considered other teams, he only visited with the Patriots. The $69 million contract has raised a few eyebrows because it’s going to the 31-year-old wide receiver coming off a major knee injury.

For Diggs, he expected his contract to be in that range.

“I kind of figured [the contract] was going to be around that area, considering I’m coming off the injury, but also the fact that I’m one of the only receivers that had six 1,000-yard seasons consecutively [before the injury],” Diggs said. “The production, it’s always been here. I can move the chains. I can do intermediate. I can go deep. I did that all throughout my career. My résumé probably speaks for itself, but it was more so the injury that would deter or make the money is what it is.”

New England Patriots Revamped Team In Free Agency

The New England Patriots’ biggest acquisition is head coach Mike Vrabel, the former linebacker who coached the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023.

Heading into free agency, the Patriots had the most cap space in the NFL.

Some of the Patriots’ signings include defensive tackle Milton Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, cornerback Carlton Davis III, linebacker Robert Spillane, and linebacker Harold Landry III.

Coming off a 4-13 season, the Patriots are a sleeper candidate to be a team that sneaks into the postseason.
