During the 2024 offseason, the Warriors failed to reach a contract extension with Klay Thompson. He left in free agency and signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the Mavericks.
The 35-year-old has been a member of the Mavs’ roster for the last two seasons. On Christmas Day, Dallas will be on the road to face the Warriors. Ahead of that matchup, Golden State’s Steph Curry spoke to the media about Klay Thompson. Curry said, “I wish he was still here.” Additionally, the PG said it would be “unbelievable” if Klay found his way back to the Warriors.

Klay Thompson was previously part of one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. He was a member of the Warriors for 13 seasons. Thompson was part of four championship teams. His partner in crime was Steph Curry. The duo was famously known as the Splash Brothers. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were one of the top backcourts for nearly a decade. Following the 2023-24 season, the Warriors failed to reach a contract extension with Thompson.
He left Golden State and signed a deal with Dallas. Recently, Steph Curry sat down with Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon of ESPN. They discussed the Warriors and Mavericks’ upcoming matchup on Christmas Day. Curry admitted he wishes Thompson were still with Golden State. Klay and Steph are still extremely close despite not playing for the same team.

Speaking with Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon, Steph Curry said he would advocate for Thompson’s return if the time was right. At the moment, Golden State believes it can compete in the West. If the team starts to slip over the next few years, the Warriors could be more open to a Klay Thompson reunion. Steph Curry said it would be “unbelievable” if Thompson found his way back to Golden State.
When Klay was asked about a return to the Warriors, he didn’t totally dismiss the idea. However, Thompson said, “That’s a long ways away, man. That’s a lot of basketball to be had.” With those comments, it sounds like Thompson plans to extend his career as long as possible. He has one more season left on his three-year deal with the Mavs. He would be a free agent in the 2027 offseason. At that time, will Klay Thompson think about rejoining the Warriors?
