Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry was ruled out during the second half of Friday night’s 131-124 loss to the Detroit Pistons due to right knee soreness, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
Stephen Curry Was Icing Knee After Game
The injury occurred late in the third quarter when Curry stumbled while making a layup as he was being fouled. He stayed in the game for Detroit’s next offensive possession before being subbed out and didn’t return.
Curry was icing his right knee in the locker room after the game, per Slater. The future Hall of Famer was still limping as he left the arena and did not speak to reporters.
"I think he's OK. I don't think it's anything major."

Speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Steve Kerr sounded optimistic that the injury was nothing major, but the team hasn’t provided an official update yet.
“I think he’s OK,” Kerr said. “I don’t think it’s anything major, but we’ll have an update [Saturday].”
Curry appeared on Golden State’s injury report about a week ago after experiencing swelling and discomfort in his right knee following an individual workout in Minneapolis.
The Warriors listed the injury as patellofemoral inflammation.
Soreness Related To Same Knee Issue
Curry previously missed five games after suffering a quad contusion and muscle strain during a Nov. 26 loss to the Houston Rockets.
Golden State also listed Curry as questionable for Sunday’s game in Minneapolis, and he played through the injury during a win over the Timberwolves.
The Warriors rested him for the Monday rematch at the Wolves but cleared him for the Wednesday road game versus the Utah Jazz and Friday’s home game against Detroit.
Kerr confirmed the soreness was related to the same right knee issue that kept Curry out of Monday’s game in Minnesota, per Slater.
“It’s been nagging him recently,” Kerr said.
Jimmy Butler Suffered ACL Tear
Curry has been dealing with a lingering knee injury ever since Jimmy Butler sustained a season-ending torn right ACL in a 135-112 win over the Miami Heat on Jan. 19.
Butler suffered the injury at the 7:41 mark of the third quarter. His knee buckled upon landing after catching a pass in the middle of the paint and colliding with Heat guard Davion Mitchell.
He also tore his right meniscus in 2018 and sprained his MCL in 2024.
Golden State acquired Butler from the Heat in a trade deal last February. As part of the agreement, the six-time All-Star signed a two-year, $111 million contract extension.
Butler is making $54.1 million this season and will earn $56.8 million in 2026-27.
The Warriors have three days off before hosting the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.
