“What Has He Done?” – Steve Nicol Rips Into Arsenal Star For Doing ‘Nothing’ Since Joining the Club
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has criticized Raheem Sterling for his performances this season, claiming the Englishman has not done anything to help Arsenal since joining. Nicol said he expected the four-time Premier League winner to use his wealth of experience to help the Gunners land their first title since 2004.
Raheem Sterling Has Failed to Make an Impact at Arsenal
New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca clearly communicated that he did not have Sterling in his plans for 2024-25 and beyond. S0, the Englishman chose the bold option and sought out a move away from the club. Arsenal lapped him up on a year-long loan deal, hoping he would be able to boost the Gunners’ chances of winning the league.
However, much to the dismay of Arsenal supporters, Sterling has not had the impact they expected. Since joining, he has only played eight games in all competitions, scoring once and providing an assist. The 29-year-old is without a goal or assist in four Premier League outings.
Arsenal is without a win in their last four Premier League matches, losing two and drawing two. The North Londoners are currently trailing league leaders Liverpool by nine points.
Steve Nicol Slams Raheem Sterling for Underwhelming Showings
Speaking on ESPN, Nicol bluntly noted how underwhelming Sterling’s performances had been this season.
He said:
“Let’s be honest, what has he done? He’s done zero.
“I mean, at the very least, come on and give Martinelli and Saka on the other side a break and push the rest of the players to be better.”
He added:
“I mean, just all the things, all the reasons that he was brought. You know, use your experience, push the other two to be better, giving them competition, and then when you do get a chance, make it count.
“I mean, he’s done nothing, absolutely zero. (I expected) more than zero, I expected more than nothing at all, absolutely. Okay call me crazy, but if you sign somebody and they do nothing, that’s not good.”
Sterling played 81 games for Chelsea before his move to Arsenal, scoring 19 goals and providing 12 assists. His contract there expires on June 30, 2027.
