Eagles vs Chiefs Preview

The Kansas City Chiefs finished the season with a 15-2 record. They finished first in the AFC and got a bye week in the wild-card round. The Chiefs defeated the Texans 23-14 in the AFC Championship Game. Kansas City hosted the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game and won 32-29. The Chiefs are now set to face the Eagles in the Super Bowl as KC tries to win a third straight Super Bowl.

On the other hand, the Eagles won 14 games during the regular season. Saquon Barkley has been the MVP for the Eagles and could be a difference-maker in the Super Bowl rematch. In the wild-card round against the Packers, he had 119 rushing yards on 25 carries. Barkley also had two catches and four receiving yards. Barkley destroyed the Rams during the season. He recorded a ridiculous 255 rushing yards and two rushing TDs against LA in week 12 of the regular season. Philly beat the Rams 37-20 in week 12 during the season. Barkley recorded 205 rushing yards and two rushing TDs in the Divisional round against the Rams to help the Eagles once again defeat LA. Barkley went off in both games against Washington during the season and once again in the NFC Championship round. The Eagles crushed the Commanders 55-23. They will now try to stop the Chiefs from winning a third straight Super Bowl.

Chiefs vs Eagles All-Time Matchup History

Overall, Kansas City owns a slight 6-5-0 edge over Philadelphia in head-to-head matchups dating back to 1972. These teams have split their 10 regular season matchups but the Chiefs have won four of the last five meetings overall.

The Eagles and Chiefs have faced each other once in the Super Bowl, which was just two years ago. The Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII (57) 38-35. That was the lone postseason matchup between these two teams.

Both QBs were excellent in the contest. Jalen Hurts had 304 passing yards, one passing TD, 70 rushing yards, and three rushing TDs. DeVonta Smith had seven catches and 100 receiving yards. A.J. Brown had six catches, 96 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. Despite the offensive performance, it was not enough against the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes only threw for 182 passing yards in Super Bowl 57 but he had three passing TDs and added 44 rushing yards. Travis Kelce had six catches, 81 receiving yards, and one receiving TD. Isiah Pacheco had 76 rushing yards and one rushing TD. Kansas City also had a fumble return for a TD.

There is one big difference in Super Bowl 59 that the Eagles did not have in the matchup in Super Bowl 57. That difference is Saquon Barkley. The defense for the Eagles is better equipped this time around as well.

Time will tell if Barkley can help the Eagles win the Super Bowl or if the Chiefs are destined to make history and win their third straight Super Bowl.

Here is the complete matchup history between the Eagles and Chiefs.
