Superman looks concerned.

The Man of Steel finally soars into theaters next week. Superman box office estimates are high, but how critics and fans will respond is unknown. Will the superhero movie be certified fresh? Below are the Superman odds for its Rotten Tomatoes score.

What Is Superman About?

Welcome to the new era of Superman.

In his first movie for DC, James Gunn helms Superman, the superhero adventure starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent.

Gunn’s Man of Steel will not be an origin story. When the movie begins, Clark will have been working as Superman for about three years.

For his day job, Clark works as a journalist at the Daily Planet. He works alongside Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), the inquisitive reporter for the Daily Planet who eventually becomes Clark’s love interest.

In Metropolis, Superman faces a new threat: Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), the wealthy CEO of LutherCorp, who despises the Kryptonian. Lex is infuriated by the people’s choice of Superman as their savior, and he will take any necessary measures to eliminate the flying hero.

Superman’s cast includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Corrigan as Metamorpho, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl.

Gunn writes and directs Superman, the first movie of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn will produce alongside his co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran.

Superman opens in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Superman won’t be a box office flop, especially during its opening weekend. Tracking service has Superman opening to $135 million during its opening weekend.

The critical score on Rotten Tomatoes is the bigger mystery.

Gunn’s previous track record in superhero movies could be a good sign for Superman. Gunn’s three Guardians of the Galaxy movies are above 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Polymarket likes that trend to continue, marking 80-89% for Superman as the odds-on favorite (+100).

If Gunn’s movie surpasses 90+ (+285) on Rotten Tomatoes, it will join 1978’s Superman: The Movie as the only live-action Superman movies over 90%.

Superman Debuts to A 91

With the embargo lifted, the first reviews for Superman are in.

Superman opened to a 90% on the Tomatometer. While many criticized the film’s overstuffed plot, the overall consensus is that Gunn crafted a hopeful Superman with great performances.

Since the debut score, Superman has fallen to 86%.
