American Taylor Fritz will face Monaco native and Rolex Shanghai Masters champion Valentin Vacherot for the first time.
Vacherot became a household name in Shanghai after grabbing his maiden ATP 1000 title in a surprising final matchup against his cousin Arthur Rinderknech.
Valentin Vacherot earned nearly a handsome paycheck equal to his total career earnings prior to that tournament and has been the feel-good story of the ATP Asian fall swing.
He went from closing in to the Top 200 rankings to World No. 39.
It will be interesting to see if he has a letdown in his first match since the emotional victory.
Fritz is coming off a career-first for himself, though it will not be recorded in the official ATP recordbooks. He defeated Novak Djokovic for the first time in 12 tries at the Six Kings Slam. Fritz won the first set and then Djokovic retired.

Brazilian Joao Fonseca is a rock star among ATP fans. He fills stadiums, and his matches have the aura of World Cup soccer.
Fonseca has not translated the success into winning a big title..yet, but he is on his way at Basel defeating defending champion Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in his opening round.

At 19, he won is maiden ATP title at this year’s Buenos Aires IEB+ Argentina Open (ATP 250).
He faces the now 20-year old Czechian Jakub Mensik who won his maiden ATP title this year also, at the Miami Open by defeating Novak Djokovic.
The two played each other once before, at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, and Fonseca won the Round Robin match.
These Wednesday afternoon matches give tennis fans plenty of excitement at that latter stages of the 2025 season.
