TCU Basketball: Olivia Miles Picks Horned Frogs Among Top Transfer Portal Destinations

The women’s college basketball world was rocked when Olivia Miles, the dynamic All-American guard from Notre Dame, entered the transfer portal for her final year of eligibility. Widely considered the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Miles’ decision to transfer prompted widespread speculation about what was going on with the Notre Dame women’s basketball team. While powerhouses like UConn and Indiana dominated the early rumors, Miles ultimately chose TCU as her final destination. She will take over a women’s basketball program coming off of its first ever Elite Eight appearance, which was led by a trio of transfers in Hailey van Lith, Sedona Prince and Madison Conner.
Why Did Miles Choose TCU?
At first glance, TCU might not carry the weight of a UConn or Indiana, but there’s more to the decision than meets the eye.
Fresh off of an Elite Eight run behind star transfer Hailey van Lith, TCU is a great landing spot for Miles’ own redemption story. Head coach Mark Campbell is quietly building something in Fort Worth. Known for his spread pick-and-roll offense and his ability to develop guards, Campbell could give Miles the freedom and control she’s looking for in her final season.
At TCU, Miles will have the chance to be the face of the women’s basketball program and perform in a high-usage role, which will help her make her case as a top WNBA Draft pick. For a player that many consider will be the future face of a WNBA franchise, the chance to elevate a rising program was ultimately more appealing than joining a title favorite.
Other Contenders For Miles
UConn
UConn’s women’s basketball program is still the gold standard. With Paige Bueckers heading to the WNBA, there’s now room for a proven ball-handler to step in. Miles would had the chance to run the point in a system built for guards and built to win.
She’d also be surrounded by elite talent like KK Arnold and Sarah Strong. Geno Auriemma knows how to manage big personalities and maximize guard potential.
Indiana
Indiana was a quieter but serious option. Teri Moren has turned the Hoosiers into a consistent Big Ten contender with a structured, tough defensive identity. Grace Berger thrived in a similar role to what Miles would have played — big minutes, high usage, smart sets.
Miles would immediately become the face of the team and have the freedom to control the offense. The Big Ten schedule would have given her strong competition, and Indiana’s fan base is legit.
USC
USC could have been an appealing destination for Miles, especially if she’s looking to have the ball in her hands more often next season. Star guard Juju Watkins may miss the entire 2025-26 season with a torn Achilles, opening up plenty of opportunities on offense.
Miles would have heavy burden in a tough Pac-12 conference but the future top WNBA Draft pick has the talent carry the load.
