Much of the talk regarding surprises NFL teams in 2025 has centered around the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots. But the best story may be happening in Chicago, as the Bears have won 9 of their last 10 games and have taken over the top seed in the entire NFC.
Bears Take Over Top Spot In NFC After Rams Loss
Things got off to a rocky start for Ben Johnson in his first year as Chicago’s head coach. A Week 1 loss to the Vikings was followed by a 52-2 beat down at the hands of the Lions, the team that Johnson was the offensive coordinator for from 2022 until 2025.

The ugly 0-2 start raised concerns, but the Bears have quieted the noise ever since. Over their last 10 contests, they’ve lost just once. Their win against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Friday was their 5th in a row, pushing their record to 9-3, one of the league’s best marks. They were in danger of dropping in the NFC North standings after Green Bay’s win on Thursday, but they still remain atop what was predicted to be the toughest division in the NFL.
More importantly is their standing in the NFC as a whole. With Sunday’s loss by the Los Angeles Rams, who came into the week as heavy Super Bowl favorites, the Bears are now the top seed in the conference. If the season ended today, the road to a championship would run through Chicago.
Chicago Still Getting No Love From The Oddsmakers
Despite their impressive run, the Bears are not viewed in any way as legit contenders, at least according to the oddsmakers. After the early slate of games on Sunday, there were 16 teams that had better or equal odds to win it all, with Chicago sitting with a +4500 designation.

They’ll have a chance to make a big statement in Week 14. The Bears will travel to Green Bay for next Sunday’s game, the first of two meetings with the Packers over the next three weeks. Chicago is currently a half-game up on Jordan Love and company in the division.
